The Impact of Educational Technology on Academic Achievement: A Review of Recent Studies

Abstract
Educational technology drives innovation in teaching and learning, affecting students' academic performance at all levels. Digital tools like learning management systems, virtual classrooms, educational applications, multimedia resources, artificial intelligence, adaptive learning platforms, and collaborative online environments have made traditional instruction more interactive and learner-centered. summarizes recent empirical studies on educational technology's effects on students' academic performance, engagement, motivation, and learning. Effective instructional technology improves conceptual understanding, critical thinking, cooperation, self-directed learning, and information retention by delivering tailored instruction, quick feedback, and flexible learning materials. When used with good pedagogy, adaptive learning systems, gamification, learning analytics, and AI-supported educational platforms improve student accomplishment. The assessment also notes unequal access to digital infrastructure, inadequate teacher preparation, excessive screen time, digital diversions, cybersecurity risks, and the need for responsible technology use. Educational technology may boost academic performance, but instructional design, teacher ability, learner preparation, and institutional support are also important. Educational technology should assist effective instruction, not replace it. Strategic investments in digital infrastructure, professional development, inclusive educational policy, and evidence-based technology integration maximize learning results and prepare students for 21st-century digital competences.
